On 25th February 2022, politician and Nimba County superintendent Nelson Korquoi physically assaulted a journalist while the latter was broadcasting live on the uncleanliness of the streets in Ganta, Nimba county. FrontPageAfrica newspaper reporter Franklin Doloquee approached Korquoi for comments during the live broadcast when he was grabbed by the neck and slapped across the head by the politician. Additionally, the politician seized two phones from the journalist. Angela Quintal of the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) commented:

“Liberian authorities should hold politician Nelson Korquoi accountable for his blatant attack on journalist Franklin Doloquee. Impunity for attacks on journalists and the seizure of their devices suggests a disregard for press freedom and journalists’ safety that must be reversed.”
