Supporters of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened and attacked a number of journalists in the Netherlands, after a failed military coup against Erdogan's government on 15th July. On the day after the attempted coup, as hundreds demonstrated in Rotterdam in support of the Turkish president, protestors attacked journalists who were covering the event. Three days later, pro-Erdogan supporters also threatened a journalist from the Dutch edition of Turkish newspaper Zaman Today after he interviewed someone who had previously been attacked by President Erdogan's followers. The journalist escaped unhurt thanks to police intervention, while the men who threatened him were arrested but released shortly afterwards.
