Helsinki police detain 38 climate activists

DATE POSTED : 19.01.2022

Peaceful Assembly

On 11th December 2021, 38 activists taking part in a demonstration organised by Extinction Rebellion Finland (Elokapina) were arrested in Helsinki. The protesters were detained because they reportedly refused to move to another location indicated by the police, which would have neutralised their civil disobedience action aimed at blocking a main road of the capital city. The protest was organised to denouncethe Finnish government failure to declare a climate emergency and failure to commit to achieve full carbon neutrality by 2025 through binding legislation.

Elokapina on klo 15 alkaen sulkenut Sörnäisten rantatien Kaikukadun kohdalta ilmaistaakseen syvän pettymyksensä vallitsevaan tuhoisaan ilmastopolitiikkaan - niin globaalilla, kansallisella kuin paikallisellakin tasolla.

Paikalla on kolmessa paikkaa 150+ kapinallista.#elokapina pic.twitter.com/TLMDgl0qn3
