Guinea Bissau-Overview

After two years of military control, elections were held in Guinea-Bissau in April 2014. However, the country is still facing political instability. Although the environment for the exercise of civic freedoms has improved, challenges remain as journalists are still subjected to harassment and intimidation, especially due to drug trafficking. Civil society organisations engage in various fields including the promotion of democracy, the fight against poverty, education, health, community development, civic and peace education. Currently, CSOs are doing more to contribute to the post-conflict reconstruction process in the country.
