Electoral authority removes social media limitation

Expression
In early August, the Chilean Electoral Authority (SERVEL) announced modifications to its Guide on Electoral Advertisements and Campaigns, backing away from an earlier version which had prohibited electoral campaigning on social networks. The modified Guide includes two new criteria covering the electronic press and publicity generated through the internet, including social networks. The change was broadly welcomed by Chilean parliamentarians and represents a boost for freedom of online expression in Chile.
