Costa Rica: women journalists report discrimination

On 19th October 2022, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights’ (IACHR) Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression presented their report “Women Journalists and Newsrooms: progress, challenges and recommendations to prevent violence and fight discrimination” which analyses the situation faced by women journalists and media workers in the Americas. The publication found that 92% of women journalists in Costa Rica said there is gender discrimination in decisions related to job promotion in the sector. In addition, 31% reported having faced discrimination in their work.
