Civil society urge the government to implement media law

Expression

On 29th August, the Coalition for Democratic Communication, a network of civil society organisations, issued a public statement demanding the regulation of the  Audiovisual Communication Services Act, also known as the Media Law. Although the law was passed in 2014, the authorities responsible for the regulation of this law stated that they cannot advance its regulation until the Supreme Court issues its final rulings in relation to the multiple challenges presented against the law. The Coalition however says that it should not be necessary to wait for the Court's final judgment in order to begin implementing legislation which they believe will contribute to the democratisation of communications in the country.
