Human rights defender summoned to appear in court
According to the League of Human Rights (LDH) Alexis Deswaef, former President and now Honorary President of the League of Human Rights, has been summoned to appear in the Criminal Court of Brussels for harassment and contempt at the initiative of Pierre Vandersmissen, Police Commissioner at the police station Brussels Capital Ixelles. The hearing was to be held on 11th September 2019.
According to LaLibre, there was a complaint laid by the human rights defender against the police commissioner for arbitrary arrest three years ago, which is currently under investigation. "It would have been appropriate to wait until the proceedings were finished," noted Jean-Pierre Buyle, who believes that this legal procedure is a "curious form of persecution".
