Newspaper Aftenposten reports that the number of hates crimes in Norway has risen from 175 in 2016 to 278 in 2019. Attacks targeting Muslims have doubled from 19 to 46. Ingjerd Hansen of the Oslo Police District explains that although there have been attacks on Christians, Jews and Sikhs in the past, hate crimes reported to the police that were based on religion have only recently affected Muslims. However, she emphasises that these figures only include those cases where the victim has made a report to the police. The real numbers are almost certainly much higher because many incidents go unreported.
