Expression

The freedom of expression is protected by Article 10 of the Constitution, with reservations on the grounds of defence, public safety, public order, public morality, public health and the rights and reputations of others. There are several independent, privately-owned news media, enabling discussion of a wide range of issues. Internet access is not restricted and access to information is guaranteed by law. However, criminal defamation remains as an offence punishable with a sentence of up to five years, and there have been cases of media workers being threatened with lawsuits and being forced to apologise after making critical remarks.
