Peaceful Assembly
Two noteworthy protests have taken place over the past few months in Belize. On 26th June 2018, a group of artists gathered outside a police training academy, to express their opposition to the training of Belize's police officers by Israeli security forces. The Minister of Police spoke to the press about the protest and stated that this is a community policing training and added that the police department has relations with many governments. He also added that this police training has been done in the past, with for example, the US support.
In a separate incident, on 2nd August 2018, workers of the Belmopan City council held a short demonstration outside the City Council to demand the payment of their wages. In both cases, no repression or attacks on protesters were identified.
